Chris has done the utterly incredible, he's brought the consideration of philosophy and its connection into grief into a conversation about making pasta! The emotional torment these characters are going through following their loss of mother and wife feels so real and like most of Chris's plays you have moments of raw emotion and some where you can't help but smile. It gives two performers the chance to play wonderful characters who are dealing with grief in their own unique way.

Grief and nutmeg baked into lasagna. The play opens with the luxurious warmth of the kitchen. But suddenly it’s about loss, heavy, like wet pasta missing something. Recently widowed, Robert cooks to create memories that are sensory, take up space in the freezer, have weight. Like her presence on the other side of the bed that isn’t there now. 24 lasagnas seems about right. It’s not pasta and cheese but a courageous act of love when father and daughter Katy cook and eat and remember mum.

Like a perfectly layered lasagna, this short play is skillfully layered with warm humor and heartbreaking grief. Food is central to the father and daughter dealing with the loss of their wife/mother. For one it’s abundance. For the other it’s avoidance. Chris Plumridge has done a masterful job of capturing the struggle to move on from loss. Fully baked and ready to be served to an audience.

This beautiful multi-layered story of grief and loss is expertly encapsulated by the need to hold on to someone we've lost. CHRISTOPHER PLUMRIDGE gives the audience an intimate look into this family's coping mechanism. Well done.
