On an Alaskan Christmas Eve, 1899, three unlikely companions become lost in a snowstorm on the Valdez Glacier. They find shelter in a makeshift cabin, but soon discover that it can't protect them from themselves or from the ghosts calling to them out in the storm.

    A highly atmospheric and haunting play. I have only visited Valdez in the summer (for the Valdez Theatre Conference where this play was read) but I wonder what it would be like in the winter. The ancient landscape and massive glaciers slowly gouging through the mountains, and the people who ventured here in search of gold, despite the dangers. This play is highly evocative and frightening and I'd love to see a production.

    Saw this read at the Valdez Theatre Conference! Kyle Walker has an incredible gift of immersing the audience in the world of his plays - and in the case of A Glacier Strider, the environment was so rich it was almost a character of its own. Is this a ghost story, or (as Walker explores in the play) a portrait of the past? Either way, I will be thinking about this play for a very long time. Well done!!
