  • Matthew Weaver: Erstwhile

One relationship comes to an end and we witness new beginnings in Weibezahl's charming short, as three characters let their emotional baggage all hang out. Well, two - Jayce seems pretty well put together. Audience members will find much familiar here in this dramatic unraveling.

It's tough when stuff gets in the way of your relationship - whether it's books and CDs or not being able to come clean - What is most important? We have either been one of the characters in this play or know them - but Robert Weibezahl's ERSTWHILE craftily creates a comedy full of twists that are lots of fun. A fun addition for a festival or evening!

You don't know what you've got til it's gone - and that's illustrated in this dynamic short about the value we place on the people in our lives... and our tolerance for their "stuff." I love the clever, quite seamless reversal, in which the trash decides to take itself out! There are so many twists in this play that I'm sure actors will have a blast recalibrating on the fly, helping audiences to really feel every reveal as its happening!

I don't want to hire the Erstwhile Moving, Storage, & Rubbish Removal Company for fear of what might disappear with the stuff. This is a funny, clever script by Weibezahl about what constitutes stuff...human or inanimate. And he has cleverly written it with flexible, blind casting.

A moving play (quite literally), Erstwhile is about moving out, moving on, and deciding what's more important...keeping all your stuff, or keeping a marriage going. A helpful moving company employee turns out to be a little too helpful. This is a funny play with a surprising twist. Well done!

Filled with twists, turns, boxes and goldfish, playwright Robert Weibezahl has crafted yet another all-too-human, funny play. It's been said moving is one of the most stressful activities, but this play is a joy to read and stress-free! Anyone with stuff, anyone with a heart, anyone with a relationship that's not working will enjoy seeing if Mattie and Brooks can work it out. Read and produce!

03.10.26 - Breaking up usually involves some heavy lifting, whether metaphorically speaking or in this case, physically speaking. Mattie has had enough (apparently of Brooks' stuff) and it's time to take his treasure out to the trash. Robert Weibezahl was written a fast (although not fast enough for Mattie), fun, three-hander, and there's a lot of delight to be had for the actors and whatever physicality they can work out on stage.

This fast-paced short play shows us that one person's trash is another person's treasure, in more ways than one. Break-ups are messy. This barbed comedy shows what can happen during the "clean up." A fun piece for three actors to sink their teeth into.

  • Mathew Green: Erstwhile

A prickly and very funny take on the end of a relationship. Each of the three characters is a great role, and the script is brisk and clever. Nicely done.

Like the saying goes, "Everyone has baggage. Find someone who will help you carry yours." Brooks has a lot of baggage, Mattie didn't value the treasures inside it. I love the message in this fun comedy!
