Green Men

Loosely based on The Kelly-Hopkinsville UFO and Alien Shootout by George Dudding.

In August of 1955, a rural Kentucky farmhouse becomes the center of one of the strangest encounters in American folklore. After claiming that small glowing figures have landed outside their home, the extended Lankford-Sutton family arm themselves to defend the house all night from creatures they don't understand.

In August of 1955, a rural Kentucky farmhouse becomes the center of one of the strangest encounters in American folklore. After claiming that small glowing figures have landed outside their home, the extended Lankford-Sutton family arm themselves to defend the house all night from creatures they don't understand.

Green Men reimagines the Kelly-Hopkinsville encounter as a tense, macabrely funny ensemble piece about fear, belief, and the fragile rules that hold communities together. As the night unfolds, the household must navigate invaders from without, but not without the social tensions already existing within their walls. Race, family, faith, and rumor collide under the searing pressure of the unknown.

Set in the shadow of the Emmett Till murder and a season of displacement and storms across the South, the play explores how ordinary people respond when the world suddenly stops behaving the way they expect it to. Whether the threat outside the farmhouse is real or imagined becomes less important than the stories the characters tell themselves in order to survive the night.

At its heart, Green Men asks a simple question: when does our fear serve?
