Recommendations of Big Beautiful Bill

  • Robert Weibezahl: Big Beautiful Bill

This fast and furious ten-minute play uses the tropes of classic sex comedies to drop the hammer on the rampant hypocrisy in Washington, particularly among the moralizing right. As a congressional vote to overturn same-sex marriage plays out in the boudoir of a Lady G-esque Southern senator, the sharp satire sometimes reads – unfortunately for our nation! – as cinema verité. Frenetic and funny, BIG BEAUTIFUL BILL gives new meaning to “gag order.”

I just love it when a political comedy works. And the comic expert Bruce Karp has done it again with "Big Beautiful Bill", an ascerbic comedy with just a hint of satire. And the fact that the piece features believable, dimensioned characters doesn't hurt either. Nicely done, Bruce!

I guess this is how politics works, but I don't have to like it. But I love this play. It is timely in so many ways. And the plot thickens until the end, when it is turned on its head. Festivals will love this play.

A very timely and pointed play about the games our politicians play with truth and hypocrisy. Playwright Bruce Karp champions the rights of the LGBTQ+ community in much of his work and this is no exception. A terrific reveal at the end and great craft throughout, Big Beautiful Bill will have you making sure your voter registration is up-to-date and to hold your congresspeople accountable. Read and produce!

  • Dan Taube: Big Beautiful Bill

A smart, funny play about the current pool of hypocrisy we find ourselves in. Yes, it’s political but it is also very human in its comedy. Great characters and a fantastic use of theme make this a very enjoyable read. Highly recommended!
