Recommendations of Things I Learned In Michigan

  • Brent Alles: Things I Learned In Michigan

A fascinating one act. On the surface, a charming conversation between two charming characters. But the subtext... oh, the subtext. It got me to re-read to see if I could make further conclusions. I have, but the beauty of this piece is that we of course will all make our own conclusions on it. Wonderful aspect there, to be sure. Beyond that, as a Michigander myself, I'm always charmed by pieces that reference my beloved state. Baughman does us well in his story here. Read and stage, please.

  • Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn: Things I Learned In Michigan

This is a beautiful moment that shows the important moments in life are the quiet moments where humans connect. This is the powerful memory Sam decided to close out his life with. And it's quiet, yes, but you also see the impact. As a girl from Michigan myself, I take a little pride in knowing Michigan is where the power of love hit Sam the hardest.

  • Garrett W. Martin: Things I Learned In Michigan

Great short play script. A cute two person play that is a little slice of life. John Baughman did a great job fleshing out the characters that have believable dialogue. There is much to love about this script. It could be wonderful to see in a short play festival.

  • Kathleen Maule Holen: Things I Learned In Michigan

I loved this play. Ok, I may be a bit biased. I'm a Michigander and retired nurse who lives in Topeka and whose son lives in South Carolina. This play triggered so many memories of my life in Michigan; my father, the North woods and being a Michigan girl. Only thing missing is Vernors and a Coney Island. Otherwise,it is heavenly. Baughman instills such a deep peace into the dying process that the play is comforting on many levels. It will be a great addition to any festival of short plays.
