As an admirer of Aly's work, I know by now that things are not often as they seem in the scenes she presents. So, as I'm reading, I'm of course enjoying her wonderful use of dialogue and creation of memorable characters, but I'm still waiting for the twist. And... she still shocks me at the end anyway. That's some pretty incredible technique, folks. You see that in this play in the many layers and levels, which is of course appropriate/applicable to the themes being explored. Masterful stuff.

Deftly constructed and beautifully revealed, Kantor's 10-minute play draws us in, lets us get comfortable, and then makes it weird. An extremely well-written play that is both bracingly current and sadly timeless. Great script.

I love Aly Kantor's writing. This short starts out light and breezy - one young woman helping another prepare for a date - but it slowly morphs into the part of the horror movie where you are screaming warnings at a character who can't hear you. What a powerful example of how abusive relationships are not just on true crime podcasts, but all around us, featuring people we love in both roles.
