←Recommendations of Flies at the Nativity

Have you ever started reading a play with a really unique plot and think to yourself, "Darn, I wished I'd thought of this!" That's how I felt reading this piece from Matthew Weaver.

Sure, we've seen other short plays about the viewpoint of other animals there to witness the birth of Jesus, but it never dawned on me to consider the viewpoint of a common housefly!

This play was a great delicacy to consume, though perhaps a different delicacy than we read about in Weaver's play. ;-)

I got such a kick out of this different sort of holiday play. Weaver’s okay cracked me up and made me think different about the little bugs that swirl around us throughout the day. Weaver’s writing is clever and unexpected, I really enjoyed this piece. Well done!

You know when you have something to share, something so incredible, so delicious, but no one seems to be bothered...? Well, one fly does here, when he finds... erm... a new delicacy, naturally he wants to share it amongst his brethren. I'll never look at the nativity scene in quite the same way again! Great fun!

Matthew Weaver has a delightful touch in telling the story of the nativity from the point of view of three flies in the barn, and it is both reverential and hilarious, which are by no means mutually exclusive. If anyone thinks this play is sacrilegious or blasphemous, they are missing one of the elements of good storytelling. Whether or not you're a Christian, seeing something from different points of view is essential to understanding it. Amen!

Somehow Weaver has managed to convey the Christian outlook on Christmas and write a play about poop at the same time. This play is sweet, funny, and surprising, and it's sure to be a ton of fun for the actors. Check it out!

I have a personal rule to steer clear of religiously-themed Christmas plays; I make an exception here with Weaver's FLIES AT THE NATIVITY. He's got an exceptionally weird mind, and I love where he takes these characters. The elephant trumpeting at the end is super funny. Fun from start to finish (unless you've got a queasy stomach).

If you think this is offensive, you got no sense of humor. Housefiles at Baby Jesus's manger and coprophagia (ewwwwwwwwwww) - a sketch that would certainly get Monty Python's stamp of approval. It would be funny if actors performed this in actual manger displays outside churches at night, maybe when mass or service is happening.
