  • Isaiah Reaves: JAX: A MONOLOGUE FOR A TRANS MALE ACTOR

This piece is melodic. This is a character who is not often represented with a light of beauty and hope. Hope is what I left this play feeling, even with the cruelty of the world that entraps this character. The world building of the piece is also something I really appreciated. I sensed the space that this individual was standing in. I sense every emotion, even though this isn't my experience. Great reading. Would love to see it acted live.

  • Ian August: JAX: A MONOLOGUE FOR A TRANS MALE ACTOR

What's remarkable about Mr. Wyndham's work is his facility with voice, and JAX is no exception. But the playwright also manages to tap into something culturally essential with his creation: There is a gorgeous optimism laced into the traumatic events Jax has experienced, an optimism that seems so crucial--not only to Jax himself, but to the larger struggles of the trans community. Great piece.

Whenever I read Wyndham's work I am amazed at each and every distinct voice that just flow's so effortlessly from his pen to the page. I am also in awe of these voices that are introductions to me of those who are fighting every day for just a bit of dignity and a place in this world. JAX is no different and would be a tremendous role for any trans male actor to perform.

  • Ricardo Soltero-Brown: JAX: A MONOLOGUE FOR A TRANS MALE ACTOR

This monologue for a trans man is about a student on the edge - of society, economy, and apprehension. Fraught, but not frail. Asher Wyndham has created another gem of a character, unique and alive, whose voice you can hear and whose disposition you can read, eager to keep things shaking while trying to shake things off. It has a distinct effect, this aplomb met with stress. Wyndham's work is remarkable for its breadth of empathy, the scope of interactions. It's as if this playwright can pluck the modern soul right off the street and smooth it onto the page.
