You will care about a sock puppet. You will care about the man who cares about the sock puppet, Lee Lawing's writing squeezes your heart and won't let go. Astounding monologue.

You wouldn’t expect a story about an adult and their sock puppet to be so moving, but you would be wrong. Lee R. Lawing takes a comically absurd premise, and tells a beautiful tale of love, loss, and despair. A great opportunity for an actor to completely reverse audience expectations and leave them spellbound.

  • Christopher Plumridge: Unfrozen (A Monologue)

There's so much love here between human and sock, no, I've never written that before... This is such a unique monologue, set sometime in the future, one assumes, as this human thaws out in a Cyronics Institute recovery room.
So much sadness and unclear past bleeds out of this piece, but it's the beauty and tenderness between them that wins over.
    Beautiful!

Awwwww. The very funny premise of this piece, a man's dependence on his sock puppet, is both funny and touching in its execution. Asa just wants to do right by his best friend, but Mr. K seems unable to find Asa's ministrations sufficient to make him want to go on. The conclusion is surprisingly moving.

This is a heart breaking story of Asa's love for a sock puppet. But maybe it is also about Asa's inability to truly embrace self-love. Mr. K definitely doesn't love himself, despite the successful show with Asa. And describing depression through a hand puppet, as well as love, is just magical.

This is one of my favorite things that I have read in my life! I'm not even exaggerating.

Normally, I try to read pieces that don't have more than one or two recommendations, if any, but the description was irresistible, as is the play, especially if you read it aloud in your best Rick Moranis voice, which I did.

The concept is cute enough, but the execution is masterful. Lawings's soaring, almost unweildy vernacular is a heartfelt symphony of longing, love and regret, somehow even more beautiful than it is funny and it's hilarious!

Just finished reading two of Lee Richard Lawing’s Monologues. Both are zany, far-out creative and so much fun to read. I would love to see the production of both monologues. Unfrozen is a hilarious bit on an act titled, Puppet and his Dummy. The team is inseparable, but something happens, and the show can’t go on. After all, “who wants to see a show just called Dummy?” The other, Fairy Noodle at the Ferry Noodle House was equally hilarious. The actor playing the noodle and will have so much fun. Mr. Lawing’s wild imagination is delightful.

My emotions were all over the place while reading this, in the best way possible. It's hilarious and heart breaking. I'm convinced Lawing could make me feel attached to any character, puppet, dummy, anything. Would be great to see this stage!

  • J.Lois Diamond: Unfrozen (A Monologue)

This a heart breaking monologue filled with humor and wit which gets to the heart of the grief which comes when we lose someone we love. As usual for this writer, it is told from the point of view of a very distinct and quirky character. I would love to see this wonderful play produced.

  • Emily Hageman: Unfrozen (A Monologue)

This is so wonderfully weird and great. It should be funny, right? The premise sounds silly, but this is a surprisingly poignant monologue. I can see audience chuckling at first, but then becoming more and more invested in this sweet, sad story. Lawing is a master at pulling out unexpected emotions, and his work is always so felt. This would be a great piece for an audition, and would be wonderful to show off the range of any actor.
