Recommendations of 4 Horses of the Apocalypse

  • Kate Danley: 4 Horses of the Apocalypse

I caught this at "10 to Places" at Heart Rep. In performance, without the title in front of me to know what was coming, the creeping awareness that these were the four horses of the apocolypse was an absolute delight. A total crowd pleaser!

  • Charles Scott Jones: 4 Horses of the Apocalypse

What do the four horses (sans horsemen) of the apocalypse stand for? If you need reminding - as I did - then Matthew Weaver’s instructive and allegorical play 4 HORSES OF THE APOCALYPSE is the way to go. Weaver also demonstrates how they kill time, waiting for the big day. This would be an absurdist pleasure to see staged. Portraying Death as a pig-tailed girl is a fascinating choice and the conclusion will bring a collective smile to the audience’s face.

  • Jacquelyn Floyd-Priskorn: 4 Horses of the Apocalypse

I love the delightful way this dark parable is told. The horses are like us all, waiting for the other shoe to drop. For the gates to open. For our call to arms...but oh! Sugar cubes! Living in the moment is great, too. I especially love the depiction of Death. It will be shocking and hilarious to behold this play.

  • Rachel Luann Strayer: 4 Horses of the Apocalypse

A play by Matthew Weaver always makes me smile and this one is no exception. From the opening line (cough) to the bitter(sweet) end, spending time with the four horses of the apocalypse has never been so delightful.

  • Steven G. Martin: 4 Horses of the Apocalypse

I enjoyed very much the online virtual performance of "4 Horses of the Apocalypse" by Stage Left Theater in Spokane, Washington, in August 2020.

This is a highly intelligent and funny play, and very character based. The expectations the characters have about riding forth as part of the Apocalypse are even more emotional because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • Ben Rosenblatt: 4 Horses of the Apocalypse

Weaver takes us on a journey into the minds of 4 Horsemen's horses, with delightful, thought-provoking and oddly emotional results. I never thought I'd relate so much to the existential questions of a horse, but this play takes me there with a natural and gentle ease. This is a beautiful play for animal lovers or anyone who likes to ponder the various ways in which beings cope with the mundane. Waiting for Godot meets War Horse in this beautiful short play, that is quirky, fun and quite unique!

A treat for any horse lover, including this one, as these four wait for the apocalypse in this charming and captivating play. Well done!

  • Scott Sickles: 4 Horses of the Apocalypse

Much has been written about the Horsemen themselves: Pestilence, War, Famine and Death. But what about their horses? What do they want? Moreover, what have they been doing while waiting for their riders to need them for their sacred and ultimate crusade? And how they do they feel about that duty and what it means for the world?

Weaver explores these questions with an unexpected (for the topic) yet characteristic (for him) gentleness of heart. There is affection between the horses who have their own passions and zest for life. A warm and lovely look at Apocalypse prep.
