We all know about the past coming back to haunt you but Scott has created a wonderful twist on that in this two-handed exchange. It draws you in from the first line and (speaking personally) by the end I was leaning forward, eager to see where the conversation was going, and it didn't disappoint. In Scott's usual way, he has created characters you NEED to know more about and placed them in a situation you NEED to see unfold. It offers moments of tension, curiosity and moments of humour. What more could you ask for?

Didn't see the ending coming. What an interesting twist. Good two hander with two very interesting characters in an unusual setting.

  • Alice Josephs: Possibly the First of Many

Surprising shifting perspectives and reversals structure this piece set in the aftermath of an almost-Stockholm-Syndrome situation. The jailed hostage-taker and the free survivor seemingly start to normalise their relationship only in the prison visiting room. Romance or friendship? A first or an only visit?. As in real time, neither we nor the protagonists can know what the future holds as Sickles grapples with the psychology of former hostage and captor in this sharply written 10 minute play.

This is a confrontation totally new to me and I was taken in hook, line and sinker. A former hostage visiting a prisoner - his hostage taker. Scott Sickles in POSSIBLY THE FIRST OF MANY, (an edgy title in hindsight), finds the humanity in his characters after a most ugly situation. Although they are still hidden by their personalities, a light is shined into them both so that we glimpse who these people really are. I asked myself if I would do the same as the former hostage. You'll find yourself asking the same.

SCOTT SICKLES’s short play is about the depth of feelings a person has while under a great deal of stress. There is a lot unsaid but the you just know there is an undercurrent of attraction between these two people. “The First Of Many” is a dynamic play with depth, heart, and possibilities.

Humanity will always permeate no matter the situation, despite all odds. Well done.

It's rare to find light in dark situations, but Scott does it with humor and humanity.

  • Philip Middleton Williams: Possibly the First of Many

This story about two people who met under extreme circumstances with polar opposite objectives shows us that even then, there is a glimmer of humanity. The connection -- or even the bond -- may be tenuous, but, like a string of spiderweb, is hard to break. Scott Sickles knows exactly how to bring out the necessary elements so that there's much to see, to hear, and to learn in such spare detail and such a short time.
