This short play is as funny as it is dark! It's always interesting to see how the horror genre can come to life through theatre, and this play is a perfect exhibition of how seamlessly the two can work together. I adored these characters and thought the script was very well-written, great work!

Horror and comedy have such a fun relationship. Scott walks the line between the two forms brilliantly in "Corporeal Punishment". The jokes are pitch-black but effective. The tension could be cut with a knife at parts. The twists and turns keep you on your toes throughout. I love a script that deals with the occult, and this one was highly enjoyable. Definitely check it out if you need a short play in your upcoming season!

Oooooo! The fabulousness of the twists and turns in this piece is sure to have an audience on the edge of their seats! The tale is one of sorcery, hidden emotions and manipulation but not necessarily in that order. That's the gift Scott gives us as the mystery of what exactly Stephen, Spence and Harvey are doing in that house and how things will unfold. Its a tension fuelled mystery that keeps on giving and would make a great addition to any Halloween evening. Its sure to have an audience intrigued from start to finish!

CORPOREAL PUNISHMENT, despite being a swift-moving, laugh-a-minute short, offers a smorgasbord of theatrical delights: an occult horror story! stunning reversals! a revenge plot! unlikely romance! existential dread!

Scott Sickles has a talent for sneaking depth and meaning into plays that feel like pure entertainment. This “spoonful of sugar” approach makes CORPOREAL PUNISHMENT a blood-spattered satire that slyly expresses the pain of feeling unlovable and invisible—and you may not realize the full effect until the laughter dies down.

A truly unique piece of horror theater. Took me down some unexpected avenues! Dark, twisted fun!

Scott Sickles manages to make his characters both ones you love to see and love to hate. Not all of them, but the right ones. When one manipulative sonofabitch gets his comeuppance, you want to cheer the delicious way it happens. I do feel sorry for one character though: Harvey, who has to utter not one, but two loooooong Latin phrases, surely a torture in itself. Luckily, he makes it through unscathed. Spooky, yet fun as hell.

Brilliant dark comedy horror with plenty of twists and turns! Scott Sickles, as I say every time, truly has a grasp on writing horror for the stage. The ending is incredibly well thought out and I was blown away reading this piece from beginning to end! Brilliant work!

What can constitute 'horror' on stage can sometimes feel muddy -- does anyone want to see someone get stabbed during a night of theatre? (Don't answer that.) -- but Sickles finds a perfect balance between psychological and supernatural horror in his play, Corporeal Punishment. His characters feel lovingly ripped from a Wes Craven classic, but the situation they find themselves in is well within the Sickles wheelhouse, if tilted toward the macabre and grotesque. This is a play whose screams will echo in your mind for a long time.

A supremely satisfying dark tale complete with severed head, Latin incantations, and a horrible bully getting a well-deserved punishment. The plot is carefully crafted to make you think things are going in one direction only to surprise you-- and give you something to talk about with your fellow audience members afterwards! This would be an amazing addition to a Halloween one act festival!
