What a beautiful, difficult and hopeful monologue by Scott Sickles... Creating in the story of a non-binary character, a story that truly pains many more -- Saying goodbye and being seen for who you are... You might be reminded of your own goodbyes to loved ones -- and your own wishes to be seen -- and question who you may not have seen before. Simply beautiful.

Sickles knows how to pull a punch and can do it with one page! I was taken back to my own mom’s passing and those six months I wasn’t able to talk to her on a daily basis as I had for so long due to her failing health. She never did not accept me. This is a huge reminder to for those who think it’s all about them, to let all of that go and see the true beauty of an individual for what and who they are.

I cannot recommend this beautiful, tender conversation highly enough. And despite being a monologue, there is definitely a conversation going on here. Multiple ones. I am amazed that there are layers of guilt, happiness, regret, frustration, anger all in this 1 page confession / plea for understanding that Scott has written. Sickles puts more feeling into one page of dialogue than some others can muster in a full length. I am in awe.

Beautiful and tragic, this gentle monologue gives us a glimpse into unspoken truths in family dynamics. I love that the ending gives us hope for real conversations and real connections that need to happen for acceptance and understanding.
