Altoona is a typical small Midwestern town. Good people of faith who know their neighbors’ names. But times are tough since the local factory shut down. The mayor brings in a consultant, David, to give them some advice on how to revitalize their economy. David falls desperately in love with the Mayor’s son, Alex. But that’s a problem. Because the town is ruled by the local minister, Reverend Halvorson, who has a thing for Leviticus. You can be almost anything in Altoona—but you cannot be gay.

But Alex and David are. Alex comes out to his parents. They’re pretty shocked. Sunday morning Rev. Halvorson is preaching about the slippery slope homosexuality and gay marriage portend. These perverts will turn all the kids gay. Marriages will fall apart. Men consorting with animals. Natural disasters.

Most of the town is on the reverend’s side. Especially when the things he has prophesied start to happen! Alex’s parents wake up one day and realize they don’t want to be married anymore. The kids in town start tap-dancing in sequin costumes. The mayor falls in love with a cow. Eventually a tornado levels the town. But it uncovers an oil deposit—they’re rich, the town is saved. Maybe the changes aren’t so bad. The minister’s shifts course: God works in mysterious ways. Maybe his calling is a mega-church specializing in gay weddings!
