Cynthia Jones Chapman is a writer who doesn't live in a bubble. By day she works in job placement services for under-employed or unemployed people with disabilities. Her plays wrestle with characters not unlike herself struggling for connection, love, equality and, survival often within family dramas and comedies Her full-length plays include SkyChef (Playwrights’ Center Core Apprentice Program Finalist) and House Rules which had a reading at New York Drama League July '22. Her 365 Women A Year play, Anna Sokolow: Truth in Motion, was selected for the Untold Stories of Jewish Women Festival in NYC (a collaboration with 365 Women A Year: A Playwriting Project, National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, and Women in the Arts & Media Coalition). Mr. Roys’ Bicycle Repair Shop, adapted for the screen, was selected for the Top 25 Shorts in ISA’s 2020 Table Read My Screenplay Genre Competition, Cynthia scratched the thespian itch out of college and trained as an actor, studying Meisner Method with Martin Barter and Gale Hansen; also Michael Beckett, Mary Anthony and Anna Sokolow at HB Studio, Gene Feist at the Roundabout Theatre Workshop, George Morrison and Michael Shurtleff. Cynthia taught scriptwriting for Emerson College’s Summer Program and was an invited Guest Artist at The Kennedy Center Playwrighting Intensive. She holds her MFA in Creative Writing for Stage and Screen from Lesley University, and is a member of the Dramatist Guild, Honor Roll! and The 9th Floor, NYC.

Anna struggles to keep her family together and keep Sky Chef afloat, while her husband lives on the edge of the law to keep them supplied in contraband. It’s not enough that her sister’s husband may be MIA, now her only son wants to enlist. Meanwhile Curtis and Roy, new Black soldiers reporting to the base, are tormented by the army’s institutional racism and the one restaurant that smells like home but is off limits. This brings Anna to a crossroads of her conscience, especially now that rumors are spreading that Mrs. Roosevelt is coming to the army base for a visit!

Debbie, who's been parenting on her own, finds herself struggling to let go of her daughter, single-mom guilt and loss and move forward on a nightmarish train ride to commencement.

In this short play, Anna welcomes new dancer, Brooke, with tough love as she works to excavate the truth. Brooke, like many initiates of Anna's, is caught in a flee or fight moment with her formidable teacher.
