LIFE IN THE FLESH is a full-length, contemporary, one-act drama, with four actors playing nine parts, and using only suggestive sets. The play explores the conflicts of a young couple desperate to have a child but who are faced with challenges of both becoming pregnant and of the looming possibility of breast cancer. We follow their battles and dreams but the play is not a straight forward naturalistic presentation. The characters are grounded in the reality of their battles with the spirit and the flesh even as their worlds are shown with theatrical leaps including a direct alignment with the audience. The play asks the question: can a couple’s love survive toxicities from both within their beings and from the outside world? The play confronts the position: We are here now, therefore what?
