Augusto was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area and is the son of a music
composer, Peruvian father and culinary chef/restaurateur, Austrian mother. His previous
incarnations include: numbers runner for a bookie, childhood trauma survivor, coffee house
proprietor, used car salesman, marble setter, and of course, long suffering waiter. Mr. Amador's
background in writing comes as a nationally produced, award winning playwright before his
transition into screenwriting with an emphasis on character driven, diverse dramas with dark
humor.
Mr. Amador is a recipient of the Disney/NBCUniversal/NHMC TV Series Script Writers Program
as well the prestigious Humanitas Prize New Voices Award in television writing. His screenplay

for the National Latino Playwriting Award from the Arizona Theater Company. His plays have
also been listed on the 50 Playwrights Project of “Best Unproduced Latino Plays”, Howlround’s
“101 Plays by The New Americans or on Latinidad”, and he is a five-time semi-finalist for the
Eugene O’Neill Conference. His play “The Book of Leonidas” won Best Play at the Downtown
Urban Arts Festival in NYC.
His playwriting fellowships include: The Public Theater in NYC, The Humanitas Prize PLAYLA in
Los Angeles, Latino Theater Alliance/L.A. and Lincoln City Fellowship in NYC. Mr. Amador’s
plays have been produced across the country, including at The Public Theater in NYC, The
Cherry Lane Theatre NYC, Queens Theatre NYC, Abingdon Theatre NYC, The Kennedy Center
in DC, Firehouse Theater in VA, Wild Project in NYC, Full Circle Theatre in MN, Lark
Developmental Theater in NYC, San Diego Repertory Theatre, Arkansas Repertory Theatre,
Next Iteration Theater in Houston, Wake Forest University, Blank Theatre in Los Angeles, Road
Theater in Los Angeles, Los Angeles Theater Center, North Carolina Black Repertory Theater,
Teatro Paraguas in Santa Fe, Barter Theatre VA, National Hispanic Cultural Center in
Albuquerque, A Contemporary Theatre in Seattle, Skylight Theater in Los Angeles, Austin
Latino New Play Festival and many others.
Most recently his play Atacama received a full production at the Full Circle Theater in St. Paul,
MN, selected for the Bay Street Theater play festival in NY and his play Kissing Che was named
a finalist for the Paul Newman/Joanne Woodward Award.
Upcoming is the publication of the Spanish translation of ATACAMA by Editorial Teatro Sin
