Vinecia Coleman

Vinecia Coleman is a playwright, actor, and director based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, whose artistic aim as a writer is to tell stories that focus on the Black female experience. Her plays have been developed at Boise Contemporary Theatre’s BIPOC Playwright Festival, Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s Black Swan Lab, id Theater’s Seven Devils Playwrights’ Conference, Mad Cow Theater, and others. Her play Christiana Lysistrata had its premiere in early 2024 at Main Street Players in Miami, FL. Her awards include Playwrights’ Center Many Voices Mentorship Finalist, Boise Contemporary Theater's BIPOC Festival Winner, Illinois State University’s Diverse Voices Playwriting Initiative Finalist. She received her MFA in Dramatic Writing and Directing from the University of Idaho.

Synopsis

Vee and Niecy return to their childhood home after their mother dies, just in time for the end of the world--the Apocalypse--to begin. While remembering the past and debating the future, the sisters meet their mother's neighbor (a well-meaning White woman) and are forced to contend with what it means to be Black...outside. This comedic play takes a look at the absurdities and realities of living in a world that...

Christiana Lysistrata

Synopsis

Living in medieval times, Lysistrata hopes to stop an upcoming Crusade battle that the men in her village seem dead set on. After hearing God’s voice, Lysistrata uses the bible (the very thing the men use to oppress the women) to get all of the women in her village to stop having sex. This comedy has a modern sensibility and can be performed by an all female-identifying/non-binary cast.

Over the past year and a half, life has become nearly out of control for Sam. She's buried under work, saving to buy a house, and trying her best to keep her marriage together. To top it all off, she's taken in her contentious mother, who has been diagnosed with dementia. Sam longs to be free of her burdens. Will she get the future she's always dreamed of or will she be forced to stand face-to-face with...
