A master sailor and games player, she outwitted English governors and officers to maintain her independence and control her destiny. When she is finally backed into a corner, she travels to England and gains a private meeting with Queen Elizabeth. While the details of the meeting are not known, Grace emerged from the meeting with a pension and freedom for her imprisoned family members.
