COWL GIRL - produced by the Dramatic Question Theatre in 2013. This piece was adapted into a television pilot in 2015 by Arrow and Key Productions and shot at the renowned Cinespace Chicago Film Studios. The pilot garnered numerous laurels including Best of the Fest finalist at the Chicago International REEL Shorts Film Festival 2017. In April 2022, COWL GIRL received a reading via the NYC-based Unattended Baggage Film and Theatre Company, where she served as the Managing Director. COWL GIRL went on to make its Off-Off Broadway debut in August 2023, at the famed Players Theatre in Greenwich Village where she has an Artistic Residency. A CAT’S TALE - produced in 2015 by Paula Landry (Idea Blizzard Productions) and directed by Rick Mowat (SnackPack Productions). This piece was subsequently adapted into an independent feature and became an Official Selection at San Francisco’s Best Actors Film Festival 2016, winning Best Director for Comedy and Best Ensemble Cast for Comedy. LA GOTA FRIA - stage play performed at Thalia Spanish Theatre in November 2017 and was partially funded by the Queens Council on the Arts. This piece is very personal as it is loosely based on her family’s decision to seek alternative cancer treatment for their mother who lived 14 years past her original prognosis of six months. The play returned in 2025 as a full production at The Players Theatre in NYC. La Gota Fria went on to win multiple acting and playwriting awards. Selected awards include Playwriting Recognition from Premio Arte Internacional, 2025 and Featured Playwright Award by Latin Alternative Theatre Awards (LATA), 2026.
YOUR SILENT FACE: short film written and directed by Anna. Logline: "Two romantically linked Latines sneak out to catch their favorite post-punk band, Bootblacks, perform. Guada is risking not only being grounded if caught but may find themself back at the psych ward if they don't comply with their mother's terms." This project was partially funded by the Queens Council on the Arts, 2021. Your Silent Face went on to win multiple awards in 2023 including: Best Screenplay at the Festival of Cinema NYC, Best LGBTQ Film at the L.A. Punk Film Festival, and tied for Audience Favorite at the Sunnyside Shorts International Film Festival. Official Selections also include the New York Latino Film Festival and New York Short Film Festival; in 2024- NYC Indie Theatre Film Festival, Greenpoint Film Festival, and AMT International Film Festival.
SOMBRAS-- short film written and directed by Anna. Logline: "What happens when a married couple's financial and emotional issues come to a violent head? This new short film by the award-winning duo, Anna Capunay and Bill McDonald, explores the dynamics and frustrations of a newly-retired NYPD officer on a three-quarter pension and his wife who is burnt out from everything, including his abuse." This project was partially funded by the Queens Council on the Arts, 2024 (now administered by the New York Foundation for the Arts and NYC Department of Cultural Affairs.
