With a passion for writing for both stage and screen, Kel Vance studied at UTS Sydney, obtaining a Graduate Certificate in Screenwriting, a Graduate Diploma in Media Arts & Production and a Masters in Creative Writing.
Kel then became involved with the Short + Sweet Theatre Festival in Sydney in 2016, where her short play “The Shoebox” reached the Peoples' Choice Showcase before being chosen by a director and performed in Dubai. “The Eulogy”, which debuted in the Hollywood Short + Sweet Festival in 2017, was taken on in Sydney by a new director in 2018 where it made it to the Gala Finals after taking out both the Judges' and Peoples' Choice in its performance week.

Her short play "Got You" was performed in September 2018 at the Short+Sweet Hollywood Theatre Festival, receiving both the Jury Award and Peoples' Choice for its program, going directly through to the Gala Finals in October 2018. "Got You" was also one of 8 winning plays performed in LA as part of "Exit Strategies" - International Ten Minute Plays Festival before it was performed with a collection of plays, written by women and directed by women in "Women In Australia: Stories of Courage" put on by Peach Productions as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival.
Kel's first completed full length play - 'The Deal' was shortlisted for the Silver Gull Play Award in 2019 and made the second round of the Austin Film Festival. Her short plays, "All The World Loves A Clown", "Homework" and "Vote 4 Me" have been performed near and far in Sydney, Bendigo, Dubai, Iowa, Los Angeles, Chennai and Perth. In 2020 and 2021 Kel's plays 'An Apple' and 'B Is For' were due to be performed in Sydney, however due to COVID19 these performances were cancelled. In the meantime Kel recently completed her short screenplays 'Bespoke' and 'The Apprentice' and well as her features 'Within An Echo' and 'Wrong Shade of Blue'. In 2022 Kel's second full length play 'Fake Plastic Trees' was Runner Up for the Edythe Brook Cooper National Playwriting Competition.
Kel also directed her first play "Shirely Vs. The Squirrels" by Camila Maxwell in 2015 at the Short+Sweet Theatre Festival Sydney, where it received the Peoples' Choice for its week, going through to the Wildcard Finals, where it was also voted by the audience through to the Gala Finals. Kel also directed her play the "The Shoebox" in 2016 where it made the Peoples' Choice Showcase and her short play "#NotAllMen" in 2017.
