Bruce Miller was founding artistic director of Theatre IV from 1975 until 2001, founding artistic director of Theatre IV AND artistic director of Barksdale Theatre from 2001 until 2012, and founding artistic director of Virginia Repertory Theatre (created by the merger of Theatre IV and Barksdale Theatre) from 2012 until 2016. He became Founding Producer of Virginia Rep in 2016. In 2019, he also became Executive Director of the Baxter Perkinson Center for the Arts. All these companies are located in Greater Richmond, Virginia.
