Linguistic Features of AAVE

by Kay Kemp

Synopsis

A play dealing with the mind-altering effects of sexual and racial trauma on the Black psyche, Linguistic Features centers around main character Zyesha’s struggle to come to peace with herself in the wake of an assault by a white man at a party. Through moments of choral poetry mixed with contemporary dialogue and absurd situations, the play demonstrates the difficulty of dealing with oneself as a Black youth.
