In the days of yore and lore but also the days of today and tomorrow, Ariadne is a young girl who has been imprisoned beneath the earth by her father. As young girls and their fathers sometimes do.

Ariadne can dance. And, by God, Ariadne is gonna dance.

Dexter is an inventor, also imprisoned with Ariadne in the basement. Carson is locked in a tower, punished for his inventor father’s misdeeds, not aware that his deepest longing is to fly towards the sun. Every day Dexter goes into the underground labyrinth he’s created, designed to keep Ariadnes half brother from seeing the light of day.

Oh, Ariadne’s half brother is imprisoned down there. That’s a whole thing, too. Ariadne wants to teach him to dance. That’s a whole thing, too.

Phaedra wants to live a normal life, despite being Ariadne’s younger sister and caretaker for her psychologically catatonic mother, Fay. Fay used to dance. Fay doesn’t dance anymore. Fay doesn’t speak anymore. Fay doesn’t do much of anything anymore. Fay had sex with a bull to ruin her husband Roy’s life. Roy did not like this much.

Roy does not like much of anything anymore.

Hawk and Matilda, Aradnei’s aunt and cousin, Fay’s sister and niece, are wanderers, nomads, witches, looking for family but never quite finding one. They also have blood on their hands. Literally. That’s a whole thing.

Young Man is a young man (or several) destined to be devoured.

And Asterion is a Maneater. He eats Men. He’ll eat you too, if you let him.
