CARMINE J. SCARPA

Carmine J. Scarpa’s first one-act play, Raca (The Fool) was produced by the Pioneer Players at William Paterson State College (now William Paterson University) in Wayne, New Jersey, when he was twenty years old. His interest in the arts further developed while an undergraduate Art History Major at Saint Peter's College (now Saint Peter's University) in Jersey City. After graduating from Brooklyn Law School in 1983, his artistic endeavors became increasingly important to him.

In 2001, Mr. Scarpa received the H. Juergen Thieck Memorial Award for Photography from the Visual Arts Center of New Jersey. His other visual arts pursuits include painting and filmmaking,

In 2008, Mr. Scarpa published his memoir of childhood and youth entitled Save Me a Seat by the Drummer, and his second book, Out of the Hand of God, describing his conversion to Judaism and his thoughts on Judaism and Kabbalah, was published in 2013. In 2018, he co-wrote Small Potatoes, a full-length musical. This past year he wrote two one-act play, An Act of Compassion and Speaking of Godd.

It unfolds out of the mouths of a variety of characters who discuss timely as well as universal subjects, including politics, religion, sex, disability, immigration, LGBT rights, alcoholism, and the plight of the elderly.
