Rose Gonzales

Rose Gonzales (they/she) is a queer Filipino-American playwright and actor based in New York City, originally hailing from Costa Mesa, California. They hold BA in Drama & Theatre at Queens College. They’ve had the great privilege of workshopping and producing plays through OCC’s Student Repertory Theatre, ranging from 10-minute scenes to one-acts. Their piece Marcello and Musetta Break Up for Good was chosen for the lineup in the 2021 season for the OC-Centric New Play Festival. Their play Five Faces (Oil on Canvas) has received readings from CIRCA Pintig Theatre (October 2024), Fishwife Productions (February 2024) and The Larking House (November 2022).

Synopsis

In a sapphic spin on the classic selkie myth, we follow landlocked Mariele's journey to rediscover her aquatic heritage and uncover buried truths about her late mother that have laid hidden beneath a meadow of seagrass in a Pacific Northwest bay. Old flames and new beginnings collide in the crashing saltwater waves as Mariele takes the plunge to find her true self.
