Lyndsey Bourne (she/they) is a queer Canadian writer, teacher and a birth/abortion doula working with
The Doula Project. Her plays have been developed with The Tank, Dixon Place, La MaMa, New
Georges, Judson, Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Brooklyn College, Williams College, Theatrelab, Playwrights Horizons, Williamstown Theatre Festival, Ojai Playwrights Conference, New York Stage and Film and Ars Nova. They have been a resident artist at The Barn Arts Collective, Stillwright (Erik Ehn’s Silent Writing Retreat), Judson and SPACE on Ryder Farm. The Second Body

Synopsis

Pearl - a rigid and lonely taxidermist haunted by her past and the animals that surround her, is forced to confront the everyday problem of living in a body when her new model, Alice, refuses to simply play the muse. Using the emotional and physical process of making an art object, The Second Body explores extinction, feminine ecology and queer erotics to question implicit embodiment in a disembodied time.

Spitfire (A Space Femme Fantasia) is a play-thing about a group of female pilots who were secretly tested for astronaut training by a military doctor working with NASA in 1960. A historical story juxtaposed and interspersed with scenes from a contemporary, fictional story about Polly, a space-obsessed teenage girl and a queer romance that goes wrong. The whole thing ends in this queer futurity/utopian rock...

A dilapidated commune in rural America is home to a group of women who’ve spent their lives living in accordance with nature and the beliefs of their male spiritual teacher. Years after his death, two former members return to find the commune changed. Their return forces each of the women to grapple with the harsh realities of attempting to create a utopic community. They begin to question the personal sacrifices of the past and the uncertain future of a community of aging hippies. A forest play about the worlds we leave and come back to, nature and its knowledge, the female body as it ages, and birthing bodies.

When she stumbles into a windowless church basement, with linoleum floors and cement walls, she discovers a community thrift shop where a group of women spend their days, sifting through donations and pricing items. Lila’s crisis quickly unsettles the other women, who begin to...

COATHANGER explores the changing physical landscapes of pregnant bodies, the interpersonal lives of nurses working at an abortion clinic as well as the pro-life protesters outside. By examining the spectrum of birth, pregnancy and abortion as if through a prism, this play seeks to interrogate our understanding of reproduction in America.
