The Red Scare is at its height, and director Elia Kazan has just served up his closest collaborators to the House Un-American Activities Committee — but for one group of friends gathered for a dinner party in Laurel Canyon, it's just dinner conversation. And at the center of it all is Katherine, Lenny's young British wife — graceful, sharp, and harboring a secret that changes everything. Un-American turns a pivotal and turbulent moment in American history into an intimate exploration of fear, identity, and the price of conscience.
