Matthew Jellison is a writer, actor, and educator born and raised in New York City. He is the author of the play cycle, the giants. The giants parts one and two was produced at Loft 227 in 2016 and the giants part three received workshops at the Lark, Barn Arts Collective, and TOWN Stages. Matthew is the 2012/13 Kenan Playwriting Fellow at the Kennedy Center, a member of the 2015 Freshground Pepper PlayGround PlayGroup, a Semi-Finalist and two-time Playwriting Observor/Fellow at the Eugene O’Neill National Playwright’s Conference, a two-time alumnus of SPACE on Ryder Farm, and a finalist for the 2014 Soho Rep Writer / Director’s Lab. As an actor, Matthew has worked at Ensemble Studio Theatre and New York Theatre Workshop, among others. He graduated from the acting school at the North Carolina School of the Arts.
Matthew currently serves as Senior Curriculum Manager and Core Instructor at Writopia Lab, a literacy non-profit whose mission is to foster joy, literacy, and critical thinking in kids and teens of all backgrounds through creative writing. Before Writopia Lab, he worked with kids at the 52nd Street Project and Manhattan Theater Club's education department.
