This play occurs in present day, and this world exactly mimics our own, with the exception of the
Stillness: The common term for the final developmental milestone in human maturation. After
reaching physical maturity, humans experience a year of ‘Stillness’ where they are unable to
communicate save for a single word. When the sun rises on the morning of their birthday in their
Year of Stillness, the first word they say, or sign, or write, becomes the only word they may
speak, or sign, or write, for the next year. Stillness can happen at any age after physical
maturity, though the majority of humans experience it in their 20s, or some time shortly after
their children reach maturity. Almost all humans experience signs and symptoms which indicate
their impending Stillness in the year prior to Stillness (known colloquially as The Last Year).

Two driven business partners, wandering in a dark New England wood, are ambushed by an axe-wielding stranger straight out of a murder-podcast cliche. But there will be no violence this night; only hilarity as our heroes attempt a poorly executed jewel heist, grudgingly avoid a sweet familial reconciliation, and drink much, too much, champagne.
