A monologue. A woman finally comes up with her final words to her dying father - too late. (can be adapted to be used by any gender)

Maddie and Jason are building a future in a new home despite his terminal illness. Living with a chronic, terminal illness means facing down the possibility of death every day; being loved unconditionally by a partner means hoping for more time with them. They discover an attic that holds more than dusty relics: it harbors the lingering spirit of a young man with his own unfinished story. As love and loss intertwine under its stained glass skylight, the attic plays quiet witness to unthinkable grief, abiding love, what it means to let go.

This poetic monologue is an exploration of healing between a woman and her body. How do men alter that relationship between soul and body, sometimes forever? How does the body remember trauma? Can the body forgive? Can we live despite it all? Because of it all? Can we find rest?

This piece is intended to be performed, not simply read. I am working on physical movement to accompany the words, and may incorporate a man into the physical movement.

A woman sits, alone, at a bar, world-weary. An old man enters and takes the stool next to her, and begins talking with her. Things get quite personal, quite fast. Is it possible to find some semblance of healing through this odd interaction between strangers? For her? For him?

The United States is engaged in World War 3, and the threat of the deployment of nuclear weapons is high. Most of the US military has been wiped out. A select number of people have been moved to underground bunkers, some of whom have been drafted to serve as transmission takers and those who will be responsible for detonating the nuclear weapons if given the order. Adam is one of these draftees. In his bunker, in between taking daily transmissions, he has fallen in love with Marie, who doesn't pay him any attention. Until she does. Would she still notice him above ground? If not, what will Adam do to keep her?

Loren returns home from work to their partner Jo as well as a severed... limb... in the bedroom. Jo, who works from home, has no explanation and seems strangely unbothered by its presence. What was the limb, you ask? Well, the answer to that question is exactly the problem.

Lark and Vaughn, quintessentially Midwestern self-appointed connoisseurs of all things culture, are excited to be in the audience for the local premiere of a new musical when things start to feel... off.
