THE BAGEL PRINCIPLE is a single set, raw, funny, touching family comedy/drama with a cast of 6: father, mother, brother, daughter and two utility players. It explores universal themes of life and death as a daughter tries to meaningfully connect with her dying father before the final curtain but the swirling family chaos, often fueled by dad, is making it a tough go. And like the most compelling theatre, this darkly funny play is deeply specific: father is a Bronx-born retired bagel baker filled with anger, wry humor and regrets, Mom hears voices in the walls, brother (the doctor-prince) is hooked on dad’s morphine and the lesbian daughter is trying desperately to both connect and keep her distance and her sanity intact at the same time.
