Caitlyn Waltermire

Caitlyn Waltermire is a writer from Kentucky and 2nd year Playwriting MFA student at UT Austin. Since 2017, her plays have been developed + produced across the country. Credits include: NYC's Midtown Theatre Festival (“Outstanding Ensemble Award”, "Best Music" nomination), Greenbrier Valley Theatre, Seat of our Pants Theatre (“Judges’ Pick” and “Best in Festival”), and the Colorado New Musical Festival. Her Greek myth retelling, Persephone Palmer Steps Out, premiered off-off Broadway at Theater for the New City in June 2025. Sci-fi/horror podcast The Ugly Radio produced period-horror Good Company in April of this year. Her fiction and dramatic writing have been published in Vassar Review, Denver Quarterly, and Apricity Literary and Arts Magazine.

Persephone Palmer Steps Out

Synopsis

July of 1998, during a snowstorm. The Palmers are a nice nuclear family, raising their son as a teenage boy and their daughter as a housecat. A retelling of the myth about sexuality, motherhood, and what we'll sacrifice to protect (control) the ones we love (possess). Being a thirteen-year-old girl has been a heady nightmare since ancient Greece.
(Full-length, no intermission)

Synopsis

It’s 1946, and Joan Calhoun, a would-be journalist with no experience, can’t get hired anywhere except The Peephole, one of the first commercial porn magazines. She tries to retain her proto-feminist ideals while hiding the job from her family and not falling for her boss, which wouldn’t be very progressive at all.

A play about the theatre of abusive marriage, billed as a one-woman show because Tom is a surprise. He always is.
