He proudly serves as the Producing Artistic Director of Theatre Lab, the professional resident company of Florida Atlantic University, where he has directed multiple World, US, and Regional Premiere productions and nearly 100 readings of new plays hosted by The Lab.
He received a Best Director Carbonell nomination for Theatre Lab’s 2018 production of The Revolutionists and was recognized by the Silver Palm Awards for Outstanding Direction during the 2022/23 season (Red Riding Hood, Dorothy’s Dictionary, Last Night in Inwood). In 2020, he was honored to be named the recipient of the REMY “Pioneer Award” by the South Florida Theatre League for his work in creating and presenting the Online Original Monologue Festival (#OOMF) to support theatre artists who lost income due to the COVID-19 Pandemic.
A proud member of AEA, Matt has performed on stages across South Florida, written and produced material for the stage and screen, and is a passionate advocate for arts and education. As a central component of Theatre Lab’s mission to “inspire, develop, and produce new work, audiences, and artists for the American Theatre”, Mr. Stabile developed The Future PAGES Project – an educational outreach program that provides writing workshops and live-theatrical experiences at NO COST to more than 1500 students in grades 4-12 each year. He currently serves on the Board of Directors for the National New Play Network and looks forward to working with artistic leaders from all over to support the development and production of new plays across the country.
