Javier Antonio González Rodríguez

Javier was born in 1980 and grew up in Vega Baja, Puerto Rico. Their approach to the theater has been highly influenced by Peter Brook, Tantztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, Arístides Vargas & Grupo de Teatro Malayerba, Rosa Luisa Márquez, Viveca Vázquez & Taller de Otra Cosa, Anne Bogart & SITI Company, Liz LeCompte & The Wooster Group, and the writings of Constantin Stanislavsky and Naomi Klein. Other artistic influences include Eduardo Machado, Young Jean Lee, Pavol Liska & Nature Theater of Oklahoma, Doris Mirescu & Dangerous Ground, Edith Piaf, Andy Warhol, Madonna, Nina Simone, Andrei Tarkovsky and David Lynch. Javier has lived in NYC since 2003.

What follows is a perversely comic regression into her darkest fantasies, memories, or both. FLORIDITA, my Love is a nightmare about the invisible in America, set on the border crossings between real and imaginary, Harlem and Morningside Heights, Mexico and New York.

Koi Fish is inspired by the story of The Harlem Hellfighters, the first patrol made of Black soldiers, including Puerto Ricans, in World War I. Set in a property that was once a brothel, the play follows the choices that face two returning veterans and two young people raised as orphans on the property.
