Sharon Cooper

Sharon E. Cooper is an internationally produced and published playwright based in New York City. Her plays have been produced across the United States, Germany, England, Hungary, India, Australia, The Netherlands, and Singapore. Sharon’s work has been commissioned several times, including at The Keller Theater in Giessen, Germany.

Her ten-minute plays “The Cooking King,” “Painting Seventeen,” and “Believin’” are published, respectively, in The Best Ten-Minute Plays of 2010, 2014, and 2016 (Smith and Kraus: Harbison, ed.). A sampling of her productions include: the full-length play "Running" at the Michael Weller Theatre; her one-act play “A Visit to the Bronx” produced at the Depot Theatre in Garrison, New York, and at the Keller Theatre in Giessen, Germany; "The Cooking King" produced in the Samuel French OOB Festival (2009) and "Stalled" produced in the Samuel French OOB Festival (2018); “Sharon’s Shorts” produced in the Planet Connections Festival; and “Painting Seventeen” in the Short and Sweet Festival in Sydney, Australia. Favorite readings include her full-length comedy "Caught" at The Drama Book Shop "After Hours" series; her full-length drama “Between These Walls” at Makor, and her short play “Mistaken Identity” at The Drama Book Shop and at the LGBT Center as part of “Celebrate PRIDE.”

Sharon studied playwriting at the Kennedy Center’s Playwriting Intensive Program and attended Longwood University (BA) and New York University (MA). At NYU, Sharon created a program called "Writing as a Means to Create Social Change" and studied screenwriting, playwriting, filmmaking and arts/public policy. Sharon's award winning short romantic comedy "The Seven Men of Hanukkah" screened at festivals around the country and was a winner at the Boston Jewish Film Festival. Her short comedy, BELIEVIN', a comedy about being in mourning, screened in several festivals and won the Filmmaker's Favorite Award at the Chain Film Festival in New York City.

When Sharon's not writing, Sharon might be teaching a yoga or spinning class, helping a young person find her own voice in her writing or walking the streets of New York after so many years, saying—“I can’t believe I live here.” Sharon is proud to share her work with the Stillwater Writer’s Group, and in the past has also worked with The Collective NY, InViolet Theatre Company’s “Second Monday Socials” and The CRY HAVOC Company. She is a proud member of The Dramatists Guild of America.

They are all stuck with each other...
