This play examines the circumstances and human responses to the events that have been taking place in and around Ciudad Juarez, Mexico. For years, young women have been abducted of the streets of this city and disappear, their bodies occasionally appearing lifeless in the desert. Even though the total number of disappearances and deaths total in the hundreds, no real convictions has taken place, answers found, and whispers of conspiracy and cover-ups continue to this day. “Among the Sand and Smog” is a work of fiction that leans heavily on researched fact, depicting the human reaction to these events. Through three independent stories, this play examines how this phenomenon has shaped and molded a city, nation, and culture as well as attempting to find answers in a situation that will never have one.
