Nan-Lynn Nelson is a writer/actor/Teaching Artist for over thirty years. As an actress, Nan-Lynn, debuted on Broadway: in 1979 creating the role of Nikki Kay Kane in the TONY nominated musical, RUNAWAYS. She was also featured in OPEN ADMISSIONS on Broadway, as well as the replacement for Angela Bassette in August Wilson’s JOE TURNER’S COME AND GONE. She has performed many times on the Off-Broadway stage as well. As a playwright, Nan-Lynn Nelson (aka N.N.Ewing) has been a finalist in the prestigious Susan Smith Blackburn international women’s playwriting contest in London for her play: LEAVING WATERMAINE. She was also chosen by, The Tony Award winning regional theatre, Crossroads, for their Genesis Project of New African American Voices in Theatre where she developed LEAVING WATERMAINE. It was also part of the acclaimed Kitchen Sink Reading Series at the Coronet Theatre in Los Angeles.
Ms N.N. Ewing won an artist-in-residence position at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center where she developed another noted play entitled: ENEMY OF THE B.R.E.A.D. Other play titles include: THE UNFAMILIAR, A SWANKA’S REVOLUTION, A TOWN CALLED WITNESS, GLORY!, HOUSE OF LATTISVILLE. SCREENPLAYS:THE REMEMBERING, BALIWICK. Her plays have enjoyed very successful staged readings in New York City including the John Houseman Theatre with a star-studded cast, including Ernie Hudson, Stephanie Mills, Douglas Turner Ward and Ellen Holly. She has been a semi-finalist in the international Chesterfield Film Writing project award as well. She is a published poet in national publications. She has been part of the prestigious line-up of Women of Color playwrights in the Ensemble Studio Theatre GOING TO THE RIVER: RIVERS CROSSING RIVERS Series production of short plays. Her play SKEWERED!, was Produced by Half- Moon Theatre’s 10 Minute Play Festival, 2016. 2016 New Works of Merit, “Honorable Mention” for A TOWN CALLED WITNESS. GLORY! was selected by National Black Theatre Festival for A-List Reading.
She has worked as a story editor for Harry Bellefonte’s film production company, HarBel Productions, and done extensive script analysis for several film companies including New Line Cinema. N. N. Ewing is a program developer and director of Performing Arts Programming for children and youth which focus on character development and academic curriculums. She continues to write plays, screenplays, poetry and children’s stories and creates a variety of three dimensional art projects. She holds a BS Degree in English/Drama and is a student of Drama Therapy.Member of The Howl Playwrights of the Hudson Valley.

Sisters, Verdene, Jeridene, and Magdelene Mainlodge, all educated, are challenged by the limitations of the times, search to find their own identity, among broken hearts, shame, ambitions, color struck and triumphant spirits. Struggle as they might, they eventually all resolve to LEAVING WATERMAINE.

Obsessed with all things “Forensics Files”, “First 48” and “Unsolved Mysteries”, Bitty tries to get to the bottom of it all. Meanwhile, family treasures and secrets begin to spill out making this a very sobering and thrilling ride for all indeed.
