Jared Sprowls

Jared Sprowls (he/him) is a Chicago based playwright and graduate of Arizona State University’s MFA in Dramatic Writing Program. Much of his recent work revolves around Jewish identity on stage, specifically interrogating and reimagining representations of Jewish sexuality, femininity, and queerness. His solo show, Good Mourning, has had staged reading at The Understudy in Chicago, Upper Jay Arts Center, and Arizona State University. Sprowls’ work has been produced Off-Broadway through the Araca Project and has received workshops with Chicago Danztheatre Ensemble, Jackalope Theatre, The New Coordinates, and Available Light Theater. Can a Jewish girl from South Dakota represent the country? Will Miss Jewish Minnesota's brother be allowed to take her place? Will Miss Jewish Oregon ever think that...

Although COVID is never mentioned, the isolation, frustration, and general malaise of 2020 is clear. Inspired by the style of "Shoot/Get Treasure/Repeat" by Mark Ravenhill, these vignettes can be performed individually or as a whole in any order that one may wish; each scene has its own characters and plot with...

This radio play turned stage play reevaluates relationships interrupted by isolation. What do we crave from others and how healthy are such cravings?

Some would say that Cowboy isn't your typical cowboy. He's gay. He loves men...although he's only truly loved a few. One night, he meets a man. They rodeo: roping, racing and riding. Cowboy is weary that this man is more of the same. But how much has Cowboy changed since the last man? Or the man before that? Reverse Cowboy is a two-hander where fears of queer intimacy and isolation meet.

Bridget Bishop, the drag queen, decides to put on a play about Bridget Bishop, the first witch executed during the Salem Witch Trials. With the help of her drag family and Donna Summer's greatest hits, Bridget Bishop puts on a show about her namesake who lost everything except her notoriety. As she struggles to balance fame and family, she realizes that both Bishops have more in common than a name.
