  • Mother and Daughter
    16 Mar. 2020
There are some big issues packed into a little play here: self-image, self-loathing, poor nutrition, the inability to connect and communicate between the generations/parent & child, how poverty restricts choice...
Perhaps there's scope to expand and explore in more depth? For example, it would be interesting to have more insight as to why the mother relents; has she given up or was it deliberate and therefore more sinister?
An interesting take on some important subjects with scope to develop further the characters; roles that actors can really get their teeth into.
  • Road Kill (one act radio)
    14 Nov. 2019
An effective radio play with a breezy writing style and very well thought-out sound effects. It's an easy read and I would imagine an absolute (deliciously dark) pleasure to listen to.
  • In Dreams
    27 Jun. 2019
Some great lines and lots of space within which to play and explore the ambiguities of the text. Thought-provoking and evocative, it lends itself to a range of performances and interpretations as well as subtle interactions between the characters that should resonate with an audience.
  • Voyeur Seeking Audience
    25 Jun. 2019
An amusing observation on art and perspective. Witty, wry commentary, well done.
  • Moon Sex Moon
    5 Mar. 2019
A far-side-of-the moon funny based on a fascinating - if fearsome - premise. The farce translates (transports?) well to the big cheese, and there is a little cheese in the play too - in keeping with the theme/genre - that is more than complemented by some sharp observations, deft characterisation and killer lines. The best argument for moon colonisation I've read yet. A lunar epic!
  • Never Give Up - Every mother thinks their kids got talent.
    29 Jan. 2019
Every playwright will appreciate the premise of this little gem from James Hutchison. And we'll all secretly hope that we've progressed a little bit beyond Nigel in our playwriting careers. Smartly observed and penned with pathos. A cringeworthy classic, in the best comedic sense!
  • The Blood of a Thousand Chickens - What would you sacrifice for your people?
    19 Dec. 2018
I had the great pleasure of playing Cretin the Priest and The Oracle in the Sydney Short+Sweet production of 'The Blood of a Thousand Chickens'. This is a crowd-pleaser of a play. A very funny and clever spoof on ancient Greek history/mythology. Riotously recommended!
  • Dog Fight
    21 May. 2015
An absurd premise delivers some funny lines and memorable images in this surprise package of a play. The juxtaposition of Kate's optimism and Silvio and Mary's cynicism and world-weariness works well.
  • Barbie Throws a House Party!
    13 May. 2015
Nicely quirky with some funny one-liners.
