JOSHUA FARDON (he/him/his)’s plays have been produced in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Denver, Fort Lauderdale and elsewhere. One Acts produced at the Ensemble Studio Theatre, the Toronto Fringe, Pigs Do Fly, Sacred Fools, Saturn and Vine, The Secret Rose, Slap n' Tickle, Stevedore, and the Yale Cabaret. He is a three-time O'Neill semifinalist. As a composer, Josh scored the movie Adopt a Sailor and wrote scores for Ruth Margraff’s Stadium Devildare, Ken Roht’s The Birds and his own A Cult Musical. He sold a pilot to Miramax Television. He was the voice of Luke Skywalker in the Lucasfilm/Highbridge Audio NPR production of Return of the Jedi. A graduate of Northwestern University and the acting department of the Yale School of Drama; a member of the Writers Guild of America-East, the Dramatists Guild, SAG-AFTRA and AEA, the Creative Director of Naked Angels' Tuesdays@9 Chicago, and a Chicago Dramatists Resident Playwright.

    An unemployed divorced theoretical mathematician has an online relationship with a man claiming to be a refugee. When the relationship goes offline, the math gets fuzzier. 1= 0 is about the tenuousness of reality, how desperate we are to feel love and how much we're willing to deny to find it.

    It's 3:00 AM. You're exhausted, you're alone, there's a plague raging outside, your estranged mother's in the hospital. The phone rings. Could be a wrong number. Could be everything's wrong.
  • Transcendence Theory
    Elizabeth rings mathematician Kevin’s doorbell and announces she’s a Facebook friend. Kevin has no memory of her – but that doesn’t stop the manic, determined and highly disturbed Elizabeth from changing the course of his life.

    As Dr. Kick examines her, it becomes apparent that Ruthie can't remember the purpose of the clinical study she's undergoing. It doesn't help that Dr. Kick's questions grow increasingly invasive and personal, even breaking boundaries of logic and time.

    A recovering alcoholic, his unhinged best friend, his actress girlfriend and her enigmatic female lover contend with the challenges presented by a post-9/11 environment. Shake happens backwards, exploring from hindsight the influences that profound loss, unassailable hope and unrelenting denial can have on a deeply troubled yet caring group of people.
