John Perovich is a playwright, dramaturg, and theatre maker in Phoenix, AZ. John Perovich is a playwright, dramaturg, and theatre maker in Phoenix, AZ. His plays have been performed at Brelby Theatre Company, Arizona State University, B3 Theater, Laughing Pig Theatre, Space 55, Cumberland County Community College, Safe Mode Productions, Little Fish Theatre Collaborative, and New York University. Additionally, Perovich’s work has been selected and presented at Valdez Theatre Conference, Festival of New American Theatre at The Phoenix Theatre Company, Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, and Mid-America Theatre Conference. Perovich’s latest play—Bards & Beasts—will be produced by Brelby Productions in early 2023.

He was the founding Artistic Director of Now & Then Creative Company, who's mission focused on the "now"—new play development and productions of new works, while also celebrating the "then"—classics for the stage. In their 4 active years, Perovich produced over 10 new play development workshops featuring Arizona writers in addition to producing Medea by Euripides, Rhinoceros by Eugene Ionesco, and Antigone by Sophocles. Perovich also produced 24/48 for Now & Then, a combined 24 hour theatre project and 48 hour film challenge. 24/48 developed into Midnight Oil: A Film & Theatre Challenge that Perovich co-produced in August 2023 with Space 55 and B3 Theater, Inc., bringing over 35 Valley artists together to create new plays and films. John also previously served as the Director of New Play Development at Brelby Theatre Company in Glendale, AZ, serving as a resident dramaturg for Brelby’s productions of new works while facilitating Write Club, a monthly writers’ group committed to the development and production of new plays by Valley writers.

John has instructed playwriting for over 10 years as an adjunct instructor at Stockton University, Arizona State University, Chandler-Gilbert Community College, and Phoenix College. John’s students have written plays that have been selected for the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and other national festivals and conferences. John is currently the Head of School at Metropolitan Arts Institute, where he also instructs Creative Writing.

Perovich earned his B.A. in Communications: Radio/TV/Film from Rowan University, M.A. in Educational Theatre from New York University, and his M.F.A. in Dramatic Writing from Arizona State University. He is the Southwest Regional Representative for Dramatists Guild of America, facilitating a free and open monthly writers’ group—Phoenix Dramatists Workshop—while also facilitating the Footlights series, an ongoing program of new play readings at Scottsdale Desert Stages.

    FULL LENGTH: Johnny has endured years of homeschooling from his overprotective Mother while his sister Heather gets to go to school. Johnny finds relief with LaRue, an imaginary friend. When Heather's boyfriend Bobby threatens to harm her and her best friend, Johnny turns to LaRue for advice that is literally out of this world. BE MY LITTLE BABY is a dark comedy about acceptance, astral projection, and cowboys.
