On the heels of yet another failed pregnancy, Harley, a former track star with rage problems, isn’t thrilled when her husband Mike invites his recently paroled cousin, Lenny, to help him open an ice cream shop in their rural North Carolina town. As Lenny ingratiates himself into their lives, Harley finds it increasingly difficult to reconcile the degenerate she remembers with the man Lenny is trying to be; especially when he falls in love with Harley’s drug addicted sister, Daisy. As the opening date for the ice cream shop grows near, Harley finds herself trapped in a power struggle with Lenny, forcing her to choose between the life she’s agreed to, and the one she is desperately barreling towards. A reflection on female rage, women’s rights, the rural white south, and the very American grip of nostalgia, Happy Harley is one woman’s attempt to carve out a small place for herself in a world she’s convinced has left her behind.
