Catherine Ballachey is a Vancouver-based (and formerly Ottawa-based) dramaturg and administrator. She completed her MA in Dramaturgy and Theatre Theory at the University of Ottawa in 2016. Her research focused on dramatic adaptation of a literary text. In 2009, She received her BFA in Performance Theatre and French from Simon Fraser University. She has worked with many Vancouver-based companies including Neworld Theatre, Pi Theatre, Electric Company Theatre, and Canada's National Voice Intensive. She also co-founded a company that continues to produce in Vancouver, Resounding Scream Theatre. In 2018, she became the first dramaturg to be funded as an individual artist by the City of Ottawa for her Emerging Creators Unit with the Ottawa Acting Company. For her work with that unit, she was also nominated for a 2019 Prix Rideau Award; the first dramaturg to be recognized in that field as well.
