Sarah Stanley’s one-person play All About Eggs was chosen for the Aspen US Comedy Arts Festival before becoming an HBO special and also being developed as a feature with APG, HBO Films and finally Lifetime. Along with Orange is the New Black creator Jenji Kohan, and director Forest Whitaker, Stanley developed a half-hour comedy called High Strung for HBO Independent Productions, and TriStar Television developed The Sarah Stanley Show, a pilot based on her acclaimed play Generation Why. She is a member of the Writers Guild of America and has had numerous TV and film options, writing assignments and development deals.

From 2008-2011, Stanley was the National Playwright Panelist for The National YoungArts Foundation, helping to identify and nurture young artists, choose scholarship awardees, and nominate Presidential Scholars in the Arts in Writing. Her new play Pool People was selected for the Fall 2019 Seedlings Dramaturgy Workshop and was part of it’s reading series at Will Geer’s Theatricum Botanicum. In 2020 she wrote a monologue for Theatre is the Cure, and several of her short plays were read in the Los Angeles Female Playwrights Initiative ’s Micro-reads. Her newest play The 49-Year-Olds was part of The Inkwell Theatre’s Virtual Playwrights’ Night, and in 2021 was given a reading by The New Play Wrangling Workshop. She is currently busy at work on The Jewel of Lanikai.

In recent years her primary focus has been with her music and band, LA local favorite Sarah & the Starlights. As a songwriter, Sarah has been writing with or for artists including The Neighborhood Bullys, David Serby, Grant Langston and the Supermodels, Divebar, The Great Outdoors, Dafni and Davey Meshell and the Transatlantics. Her songs have been heard on ABC, HBO, Showtime, Lifetime, Bravo, TLC, A&E and History Channel.

In her early writing career Sarah was featured in Vogue, The Washington Post, Elle, GQ, Adweek, NPR, and Variety. She is a personal essay reader at LA’s literary shows like Sit ‘N Spin, Lit Up, Pez Show, Word Salad, The Triangle Room and Piñata, and was a recent winner at The Write Club.

Originally from Hawaii, Stanley currently lives in Los Angeles.
