Malick Ceesay

Malick is a playwright, director, and music producer from the Twin Cities. His play, Waiting in Vain, was workshopped and produced at Augsburg University with Ambiance Theatre Company. He was a finalist for the Many Voices Mentorship through the Playwrights’ Center (Minneapolis, MN) in 2018. His work has been featured in the digital anthology, Black MN Voices (published in 2020) and has been a writer for The Plugged App. He currently resides in Los Angeles, CA where he is pursuing his MFA in Playwriting at UCLA (Graduate Opportunities Fellowship). Bruised Silhouette is about the life of a young Black and Muslim boy who deals with domestic violence between his parents that lead to him running away and questioning his views of faith, love, and home all the way into his adulthood.

Synopsis

Waiting in Vain is a story about four young and Black teens who rob a gas station and hide out in an abandoned store blocks away. As they devise a plan to escape home unscathed, they are stricken with agonizing panic, detachment, and nightmares, as the media finds evidence pointing closer to their location - preventing them from returning back into their esteemed lives.
