Joyce Newman Scott

Joyce started college in her fifties after a successful career as an actor and a flight attendant. She studied Screenwriting at the University of Miami and Creative Writing at Florida International University. She is a proud member of the Dramatists Guild. Her short stories have appeared in multiple Chicken Soup anthologies and Not Your Mother’s books. Her play The Audition was read at the 2015 Players Follies Play Reading Festival and performed at Short Cuts 6 in Boca Raton, Florida. The Menopausal Freshman monologue was performed at 2018 Players Follies Festival. The Happy Place was performed at Lauderdale-by-the-Sea Seaside Players Community Theater’s production of Sea Shorts in 2019 and GB Production’s North Park Vaudeville & Candy Shoppe, San Diego, CA. The Happy Place was one of 15 Winners at the Raven Theatre Festival in Healdsburg, CA. and The Menopausal Freshman monologue has recently been chosen by Lita Doolan to be performed by Burning Man Festival, Zoom in the U.K. The Menopausal Freshman is published by Smith and Kraus in Best Women's Monologues, 2021. The Culling is published by FlowerSong Press. The Menopausal Freshman monologue is in the Spring 2025 issue of The Soliloquist. The Happy Place monologue has been published by FROZEN WOMEN. The Trauma Turnpike is published in Real South/West Magazine
