Los Angeles-based writer Tim Bryant (TimBryant.net) is a member of the long-running playwrights incubator Playground-LA. He earned his MFA in Playwriting from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale and a BA in Theater from Western Kentucky University. His plays have been presented on stages in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York. His original children’s play "Jack and the Firebird" was produced in grad school, as well as in San Francisco at the Noe Valley Ministry. In San Francisco he also interned with Eureka Theatre Company. His comedy "Hot Beef" was a 2023 finalist in Playhouse on the Square's NewWorks@TheWorks Playwriting Contest in Memphis, Tennessee and also a 2024 Second Rounder at the Austin Film Festival's playwriting contest. In 2024 Tim's musical for young audiences "LuLu Lucy" was presented in a series of staged reading-sing-throughs at St. Louis's Greenfinch Theater and Dive. His short play "The Interloper" was given a staged reading by Surfside Playhouse in Cocoa Beach, Florida in March 2025. His short comedy "On Delivery" was a finalist in New York City's Fresh Fruit Festival and presented there for two nights in competition.
While in grad school, Tim was a TV staff writer for “Jo Jo and Joyce Club,” a ten-minute lead-in for the local broadcast of “Sesame Street” on WSIU-TV. The show involved a koala bear costumed character who lives in Joyce’s backyard and learns weekly lessons about culture and life.
Tim’s ribald farce, “Hotel Bethlehem,” co-written with Tom W. Kelly, was produced in 2001 and 2002 by Isis Arts Collective at the Exit Theatre in San Francisco. The Bay Area Reporter called it “A collision of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum and Hustler magazine.” SF Weekly proclaimed it “Best viewed while drunk.”
Tim’s career at The Walt Disney Company included writing assignments for CPNews, a glossy publication of the Consumer Products division. He published profiles there of producer Don Hahn and animator Willie Ito.
His short fiction appeared in the literary magazine “Venice West Review.”
