For some Shaker Heights students, AP U.S. History isn’t just a class – it’s a lifestyle. Ruby, our playwright and narrator, takes us back seven years ago to an APUSH cohort tackling college-level coursework and adolescent life under the guidance of eccentric teacher Mr. Hitchens. But when Mr. Hitchens suddenly disappears under mysterious circumstances, his students are left to reckon with his role in a 20-year-old sexual assault case. As both a high schooler in 2015 and a playwright in present day, Ruby grapples with how to tell a story she still doesn’t understand.
